Excellent op/ed from Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples, who provides context to 17-year old high school baller Jeremy Tyler’s decision to go to Europe and play pro instead of pursuing a year or two at the college level. I enjoy college basketball as a product, but can’t stand the hypocrisy of the college system. I’d love to see basketball go the way of European soccer, with the best players going to pro academies. Staples does an excellent job of dissecting the criticism of Tyler’s choice.
Also, Pete Thamel, who I know from his college lax coverage, wrote the original article for the New York Times. Check it out.
